Descripción

The diagnosis of lymphoma by FNA cytology was controversial for many years due to its emphasis on growth patterns; it has gained acceptance in recent years as the introduction of immunocytochemistry led to new classification systems placing less emphasis on growth patterns and more on immunologic characteristics. In this text, Skoog and Tani (both pathology and cytology, Karolinska U. Hospital Solna, Stockholm, Sweden) provide a practical guide to the technique for cytopathologists, pathologists, oncologists, hematologists and other clinicians involved in the clinical work-up and management of patients with lymph node lesions. Opening chapters addressing the technical and methodological aspects of lymphoma diagnosis are followed by several chapters on the cytologic features of neoplastic and reactive lymphoid lesions, based on the most recent (2001) WHO lymphoma classification to describe various lymphoma subtypes. Also included is a chapter on lymphoma look-alikes. Illustrated with 66 figures, 65 in color, and eight tables.
